Geodesk International Mobility Insurance protects the health of expatriates and their families in every country where they live abroad, with no gap in coverage when they move to a new destination. This international health insurance plan designed for expatriates reimburses medical expenses starting from the first euro, at the actual local cost—whether it’s a doctor’s visit in Conakry, Guinea; pediatric care for your children in New Caledonia; or hospitalization in the United Arab Emirates. Where French Social Security and the CFE (Caisse des Français de l’Etranger) leave off, international mobility insurance for expatriates takes over and includes 24/7 medical assistance as well as medical repatriation. Each policy is tailored to the country of assignment, the policyholder’s age, and the exact composition of the household.
Geodesk’s war-risk insurance covers expatriates living in or traveling to countries experiencing tension, open conflict, or rapid instability. Most standard health insurance policies exclude these destinations as soon as a country’s situation deteriorates; Geodesk, however, stands by your side and negotiates specific policy extensions that maintain coverage for medical care, medical assistance, and medical or security evacuation from the field. This insurance is based on constant monitoring of international news and a network of partners in more than 150 countries, capable of organizing care even in remote locations. Responsiveness is crucial here: in a case of typhoid fever in Nepal, Geodesk and its international partners responded in less than an hour to organize the evacuation and medical care for the insured individual.
Geodesk’s compliance and liability insurance safeguards the legal status of expatriates abroad, going beyond health coverage alone. In several countries, local regulations require foreign residents or their employers to purchase specific health insurance: non-compliant coverage can prevent the issuance or renewal of a visa. Geodesk verifies this regulatory compliance on a country-by-country basis and tailors the policy accordingly. This insurance also includes personal liability coverage abroad, which protects the expatriate and their family in the event of damage caused to a third party outside of France, where French homeowners’ insurance no longer applies. Your coverage is thus aligned with both your local legal obligations and the actual risks associated with your expatriation.
Geodesk is a broker that specializes exclusively in international insurance, with over 30 years of experience and a network of international insurance partners
At Geodesk, no international insurance policy is off-the-shelf: each policy is negotiated and tailored to your company’s specific situation, your employees’ profiles, and the countries where they are assigned. From the initial contact through to the handling of any potential claims, you have a dedicated point of contact.

“The Lycée Français Alexandre Dumas in Moscow , a school directly managed by the AEFE (Agency for French Education Abroad), places the safety and well-being of its students at the heart of its priorities. This is why we attach paramount importance to the quality of the school insurance we have purchased from CGEA GEODESK. Our school welcomes over 660 students, from preschool to the final year of high school, from numerous nationalities and spread across three separate campuses. In such a demanding international environment, we need a reliable partner. CGEA GEODESK fully meets this requirement. The “INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOOL INSURANCE” coverage protects our students during school hours, on educational outings, and during all extracurricular activities organized by the school, thus providing continuous protection tailored to our daily lives.”

Here you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about international health insurance. For more specific inquiries, please contact us: we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
No. The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is valid only in countries of the European Union, the European Economic Area, and Switzerland.
Even in these countries, it has several limitations: reimbursement is based on the rates of the host country, out-of-pocket costs can sometimes be significant, there is no medical repatriation, no 24-hour assistance, and no coverage outside of Europe.
Dedicated international health insurance remains essential for a study abroad program, a university exchange (Erasmus or non-Erasmus), an internship, or a student assignment abroad.
Very limited and only to a small extent. Outside the European Union, the student social security system generally reimburses medical care based on French rates, which are much lower than the actual costs in countries such as the U.S., Canada, Japan, Australia, etc.
A long-term stay also changes your status under the French system. Consequently, a stay of several months or several years requires international student insurance. Geodesk first verifies your exact student status before designing coverage tailored to your destination country and the length of your stay.
Many countries require proof of international health insurance in order to issue a student visa. Requirements vary by destination. The Schengen visa requires minimum medical coverage (often set at €30,000), and the U.S. student or trainee visa (J-1 visa) mandates specific amounts for medical evacuation and repatriation of remains.
Several countries in Asia, the Americas, and the Middle East also require minimum coverage. Insurance that does not meet these requirements may be enough to prevent departure. Geodesk provides insurance in the format required by each country and in accordance with the requirements of consulates and educational institutions.
Not automatically. An internship abroad requires specific insurance in most cases
An internship abroad combines several statuses—student, intern, and sometimes employee—which creates gray areas in standard insurance policies. Standard insurance does not always cover professional liability, damages caused during the internship, the host company’s requirements, or the legal obligations of the host country.
Geodesk explicitly extends liability coverage to the internship period, verifies the specific obligations of the host country, and provides tailored coverage for internships abroad.
Medical repatriation insurance is essential.
The cost varies greatly depending on the distance and the insured person’s health condition. Medical repatriation from Asia or the Americas via a medical evacuation aircraft with a medical team can cost tens of thousands of euros. This coverage varies the most from one policy to another: not all policies cover medical repatriation, repatriation of remains, early return due to a serious family emergency, assistance for family members, or medical evacuation. Geodesk systematically verifies each of these situations, selects only policies that include these coverages, and relies on a platform that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
A school trip entails liability for the school, chaperones, and organizers. Geodesk provides coverage that includes students’ medical expenses, assistance, repatriation, and civil liability, with a single point of contact for the organizer.
For 30 years, Geodesk has been supporting elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and educational institutions with customized international insurance policies for students and school groups.
Geodesk currently supports 59 French schools abroad by offering tailored solutions for students, expatriate teachers, administrative staff, school trips, international exchanges, internships, and educational field trips.
Each school benefits from a customized contract tailored to the country where it is located, local regulations, its student body, and the risks specific to that school. A dedicated advisor oversees the contract, provides support to policyholders, and manages claims throughout the school year.
Each profile comes with its own set of challenges. Choose yours to find out which coverage is right for your situation abroad.
